Let me start off with my drive to Vegas...
The drive to Las Vegas was ok, not fun but not horrific either. I got to drive with the flow of traffic the whole way which was 80MPH, so it was fun. I listened to music the entire trip, cursing at some of the people in the road, and laughing about how dumb it is to yell, other then that the drive was uneventful.
I arrived at Las Vegas about 1:30PM and parked at the Hard Rock Caf. I parked my car and got my things situated and headed inside. Once inside I found the showroom where Oasis was to play, it was called "The Joint." From 1:30PM - 2:30PM I stood outside the doors feeling like a geek since there wasn't anyone else there waiting, luckily someone came up to me and asked me what I was doing, I said I was waiting for the concert and they let me know that the line was outside.
...$#!t...
I walked outside and there was already around 100 people waiting inline, I was a little mad, but let it blow over because I knew Matt W. would be there in two hours. I chatted with the people in line, talked about Oasis and anything else that came up, and overall had a real great time. When Oasis arrived in their vans several fans got to shake their hands, if Matt had been there I would have sent him over, but since I was by myself I did not want to lose my spot. From about 4:00PM on Oasis walked in and out of the showroom buying drinks, gambling, signing autographs and other stardom things.
5:00PM creped around and I was wondering where Matt was. I knew that his plane was supposed to land at 4:00PM and he was going to make it over as soon as he could, but I just figured that there was some delay and he would be a little late.
6:00PM Where the HELL is Matt!?!? Now I'm worried, I've tried calling his cell phone, but have his old number so I get a hold of some guy that I didn't know. I go back to my spot in the line that my newly acquired Oasis friends were at, and started to worry.
6:30PM Oh man...the doors are opening in 30 minutes and Matt's not here! I went over to the phone and called my Dad at the store and asked him to call Matt's parents and either have them call his cell phone or give me the number so I could. I got his number and quickly called him and what do I get..."Hi this is Matt; I can't come to the phone right now, so please leave me a message."
GAAAAHHHHHHH!!!! NNNNOOOOOOOO!!!!
I left my message and went back to the line, at this time I've already gotten my hand stamped and ticket torn so I'm starting to sweat bullets since we'll be going in and I can't save our spot in line.
6:45PM MATT! YOU ********!! Where have you been? I then was replied with "I have to find an ATM." I didn't ask why but at least I knew he'd make it in to the concert in time. He went to the ATM and went back outside then came back in.
After Matt gets in line I run some of his stuff to my car and run back. When I get back we're starting to move to get in to the concert; Matt then tells me his story. Apparently when he was in the airport about ready to taxi out, the Pilot announces that there is something not working right and they want to check it out. The move back in, get it checked and the pilot announces again, this time he tells everyone that the starter is out in one engine and that it will be a while so sit back and get comfortable. There was a nice lady story in there, but I'll let Matt tell it if he wants in his entry.
Once he finally made it to Las Vegas he tried to hail down a cab, no go. He then asked where he should go and someone told him the other side of the street, he hailed the cabs again, no go. Finally he went inside and asked and the lady said that he should go out through some doors and they'll get him a Taxi there, when he walked out he found himself standing in a LONG line. After a bit of time was spent there he finally made it to the Hard Rock Caf, you think I'm done...I'm not. The cab driver would not take a credit card so Matt had to go inside and use an ATM to withdrawal money to pay that cab driver, thankfully he was a cool driver and let Matt do that or else he WOULD have been late.
--THE CONCERT--
Unbelievable, probably the best concert I've ever seen! After thinking about it for a while I really think it WAS the best concert I've ever been to. Matt and I were no more then ten, yes that's right 10 feet from the stage. We saw the microphone, peoples eyes, everything!
The cover band for Oasis was weird. I forget their names, counter something or other. The lead singer was Indian so every other song he sung in Indian. I'm not raciest and I like other cultures expressing their heredity...but, I didn't have a foggy CLUE what he was singing in Indian. Matt knows the basic beat of a lot of songs so he was telling me what they were. The crowd would jam to the songs they understood and then looked like a deer in headlights when they didn't. Oh well, chuck it up to another experience in the game of Life.
Once the band left the stage and the crew was setting up for Oasis, everyone brought out the goods. If you havent been to a concert before I'm referring to pot. Matt and I looked at each other a few times and laughed at hoe MANY people were lighting up. Guys on either side of us we toking on their pipes and whatever else you call them then offering them up to others in the area, they were following the "Puff puff give" rule.
-=-=-=Oasis=-=-=-
Oasis time Baby!! The band started off with "F****** in the bushes," Everyone went NUTS! When the band came out it was totally awesome, you could see the facial expressions of each member, watch what cords they plucked on their guitars, everything! The concert was so awesome I can't really describe it in words. The only thing that comes close to it is that it was
Magnificent, opulent, tremendous, stupendous, gargantuan, bedazzlement, a sensual ravagement, it was Spectacular, spectacular!
The band played hard and they ATE IT UP when the entire crowd singing every song, YES we all sang every song. There are some concerts that you go to and some or most of the people knows the words, but I swear everyone that I saw was singing right along with them almost every song. It was a live crowd with a lot of energy!
I don't recall what all the tracks that were played and I certainly don't remember the order, so I'll leave that up to Matt. During the show there were a few people removed for various reasons, but overall it was uber! I really had a lot of fun, totally a GREAT way to start off the weekend.
--The Aftermath--
After Oasis we wanted to get something to drink so we went out to my car and drove to find a Taco Bell. Once we were in the car Matt and I both knew that our legs wanted to rest, so we accommodated them and went to our room and checked in. From there on we watched TV and crashed for the night.
The next morning we woke up and went over to meet Matt's friend Pat. Pat had come in to Las Vegas before Matt to meet up with his girlfriend of 5 years. He proposed to her underneath the Eiffel Tower while we were in Oasis and she accepted. When we saw them that morning they both looked pretty happy. We all hopped in my car and drove them to the strip. Matt and I both congratulated them various times then headed back to our room to get cleaned up.
After we got clean we went and bought some grub. Cookies, Bacardi Silvers, cookies, Pringles, Fiddle Faddle and 2 Abazabbas, you know...20 year old grub food.
Lunch was a blast, it was so fun to meet one of Matt's friends from the Academy and just chill; it was fun watching the two newly engaged couple too. After lunch we went over to the Hard Rock Caf again and took a few pictures. From there we drove to Planet Hollywood and checked that place out, once done with all of the day's events we were a little tired and knew that we had to turn in earlier since we had to wake up at 5:00AM to take Matt to the Airport and allow me to leave early enough to avoid traffic. We said our goodbyes but were happy knowing that we both had a blast and that his summer leave isn't too far away.
--The Drive Home--
Sweet, that's all I can say is sweet. I thought I was going to be sitting in traffic all day and I didn't get in ANY until the last 20 min, I didn't complain. I got home at 9:15AM so I made great time from Las Vegas. 3.5 hours to be specific! Right now I'm updating my web log and am about ready to work on some web pages and earn some money and favors. I hope you all had a great weekend and have a great day!
